Our Lineup
Hikifurisode is a type of traditional Japanese attire known as Furisode, typically worn by brides at formal weddings. The term “Furisode” literally means “swinging sleeves,” characterized by its long sleeves. Hikifurisode, named for its particularly luxurious and trailing hem, features even longer sleeves and a hem that reaches the ground, captivating many with its elegance and flamboyance for special occasions.
Unlike the Furisode worn by young women at events like Coming of Age Day, Hikifurisode is often worn by brides at traditional weddings, making it a highly valued garment for once-in-a-lifetime occasions. Made from high-quality silk, it features delicate patterns woven with gold and silver threads. The rich colors are selected based on the season, the wearer’s age, and the wedding theme.
Hikifurisode not only showcases the wearer’s external beauty but also reflects their inner purity and grace. In Japanese traditional culture, each garment carries significant meaning, and Hikifurisode is no exception. For example, cranes symbolize longevity, turtles signify good fortune, and plum blossoms represent purity. These symbolic designs are believed to bring happiness and a good fate to the wearer.
However, this beautiful tradition is rarely experienced in everyday life due to its costliness and the unique dressing method. With a strong desire to bring this rich Japanese tradition closer to everyone, we have introduced a special plan.
We hope that this initiative will allow not only international visitors but also those with fewer opportunities to engage with Japanese traditions to experience the beauty and cultural value of Hikifurisode.
